Mr Gillan has divided his 40 year career evenly between upstream Oil & Gas Exploration and Gold and Base Metal Mining & Exploration. He spent 15 years as hands-on Exploration Geologist in remote parts of his native Canada with major mining companies, including Falconbridge, Amax, Homestake and oil & gas companies including Norcen and Petro-Canada.

Mr Gillan refocused his attention internationally to include most of the former Soviet states, Pakistan, Sudan, Nigeria, Ghana, UAE and others. He lived in Pakistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Georgia for extended periods prior to moving to London. International assignments were with Shell, Canadian Occidental, Quest Petroleum, Ramco, BHP Billiton, Central Asia Goldfields, Gulf International Minerals and others. He has maintained close ties with the Georgian company Geological Exploration Centre for over 18 years.

Recent assignments have added to his portfolio of international expertise through high profile executive level crisis management and problem solving situations. His 3 year assignment in Uzbekistan with Carlsberg is an example from the FMCG industry.

Mr Gillan completed his undergraduate geology degree at the University of Western Ontario and postgraduate geology programme (Master of Science) at The Memorial University of Newfoundland.
